[00:00:22] Hello everyone and welcome to the Shuffle Playlist. My name is Bodie and I'm here with my co-host Chris. Say hello, Chris

[00:00:29] Hello, how are you guys doing? They're doing well

[00:00:33] Chris we mentioned this in episode one, but it bears

[00:00:37] Remenining as we go through this that we have changed the format of our show

[00:00:42] slightly what we used to do is we used to talk about a song and then we would play the song

[00:00:47] or parts of the song during the episode and

[00:00:51] Then we put it all together and it would sound really cool the problem with that is

[00:00:56] Nobody wants to advertise on that

[00:01:00] Right, right. Yes. So we had to change it a little bit. We had to change a little bit and that is okay

[00:01:05] Yes, that's right. So for now on

[00:01:09] We're going to take

[00:01:11] The YouTube link we're gonna put it in the show notes so you can listen to the entire song and then you can come back

[00:01:17] And hear Chris and my

[00:01:20] Comments on that song. Yes

[00:01:23] We're also going to put in if we think something's particularly cool

[00:01:27] We'll put in a timestamp to that same YouTube video in the show notes

[00:01:32] So it'll just be a link so you can click on that link and you can hear what we're talking about if you so choose

[00:01:37] We won't always put that timestamp in

[00:01:40] But

[00:01:41] That's the plan just on occasion when it's when it's relevant and necessary with that timestamp in otherwise

[00:01:47] It'll just be the YouTube link. Yeah, so you guys can go check it out

[00:01:52] Perfect

[00:01:54] Chris what is the song we're gonna be talking about today? So I went with

[00:02:00] Filter you walk away. No, so filter band from the 90s. I mean they're still around today a lesser known song by them

[00:02:09] Off of their Amalgamut album and that's a song that we have so this I don't even know when the song came out

[00:02:17] I have never heard of the song before. I mean obviously I've heard a filter. Yeah, you know, I I hadn't heard of it

[00:02:24] I went to a concert to filter there at the Marquis theater here in Phoenix

[00:02:29] I think I don't know about eight years ago or so a buddy of mine just had an extra ticket

[00:02:34] And said hey you want to go I'm like, yeah, okay?

[00:02:36] I like you know if I like filter kind of hey man nice shot, you know take a picture

[00:02:40] Yeah, pretty good. Sure

[00:02:41] But when I went I was really amazed at how well they still sounded their singer just still sounds

[00:02:47] Richard Patrick still sounds amazing and just the tight chemistry of it and actually they played you walk away

[00:02:53] I didn't know the name of the song

[00:02:54] I had never heard of it either

[00:02:55] But I liked it so much that I actually looked it up and then I've just listened to whatever sense

[00:03:01] I mean, they're just there's such a unique style like filter. I mean they're just their alternative

[00:03:05] They're rock their industrial like they just incorporate that stuff so well, you know, especially on this song too

[00:03:11] Yeah, and they've got I

[00:03:14] Can't quite put my finger on it but

[00:03:17] They got some

[00:03:21] they've got

[00:03:23] They they got some elements of some other bands of that era in there

[00:03:28] Mm-hmm, but I can't put my finger on which bands that which which which

[00:03:33] Which bands those would be like it's its own thing, but it definitely has

[00:03:39] Elements of what was going on in the music scene of that of that era. Yeah, it has that

[00:03:45] It has that style it was released in 2002

[00:03:48] So I had to look at that as well. So yeah, I mean, I don't know because semi-alternative is still pretty big

[00:03:53] But they're influenced by someone because I know what you mean

[00:03:56] I mean they kind of have like I don't want to say radiohead with a chunk of stuff

[00:04:00] But like I don't know it's just they're so unique like their own style

[00:04:05] Yeah, radiohead is more of a smooth melancholy

[00:04:09] This is more aggressive, but it's got that stuff that yelling in the background and yeah, you know

[00:04:15] Talking through the the telephone filter that kind of stuff and they do that and hey man

[00:04:21] I shot so maybe that's where I'm getting that. I don't know but I

[00:04:25] Never heard the song before but I really like this song. Yeah, I loved it

[00:04:30] I was I was amazed like it was kind of funny at that concert because I think they played

[00:04:33] For like two hours and I think it was probably about an hour and a half before they played a song that I actually knew

[00:04:39] So

[00:04:41] Because I mean I only knew like title of record, you know and that was a long time ago

[00:04:45] But they played this one probably about halfway through and I literally had to like grab my phone and get the title and look it up

[00:04:51] And like it's amazing. Do you have any fun facts or cool history about the band?

[00:04:56] I do you know

[00:04:57] I looked well and I looked it up because at that concert actually my buddy kind of told me that the singer

[00:05:03] Richard Patrick is the brother of Roderick or Robert Patrick who played the cop in Terminator 2. Oh, yeah

[00:05:10] Yeah, he's actually the brother of him. Oh, I didn't know. Yeah, I didn't know that so I looked him up

[00:05:15] And I'm like wow. Yeah, they look a lot alike. So they are brothers

[00:05:19] And I did not know this but Richard Patrick the singer was actually a touring guitarist for nine inch nails

[00:05:25] But then he quit to start filter

[00:05:27] So I did not know that because he's he does play guitar and he played a little bit at the concert

[00:05:33] But he's obviously well known more for his vocals

[00:05:37] Which I don't know maybe that's why he left because he wanted to do more than just play guitar

[00:05:42] But but yeah, he was actually with nine inch nails as a touring guitarist before he started filter

[00:05:47] So then I just kind of thought I mean if you talk about filter

[00:05:50] You obviously like you said, you know, hey man, I shot take a picture. But I mean this was just a really

[00:05:56] It's cool kind of hidden jump discovery that I really liked

[00:05:59] And I encourage anyone just to take a listen to it

[00:06:01] And I think they really like it too, especially if they like filter. I agree. There you go

[00:06:06] There you go. I want to thank everyone for tuning in and listening to shuffle playlist

[00:06:11] We hope you enjoyed our recommendation this week, which was you walk away by filter

[00:06:18] If you want to email us you can you can just shoot me an email and I'll pass it on to Chris

[00:06:23] It's bodee b-o-d-i-e at 918 digital.com

[00:06:28] You have anything else Chris? Well if anybody who listens to it like just send an email and tell me what you think because I

[00:06:34] It just made me even more of a filter fan like on that front. They just it's it's funny how like

[00:06:40] Sometimes bands can take a deeper track that to me sounds better than some of their main hits

[00:06:45] You know and this is kind of one of those so I'd be curious if anybody else felt that way or if it's just me

[00:06:51] Yeah, I'd be curious to shoot me an email and put the subject line filter you walk away

[00:06:58] Perfect. All right. I think that's it Chris. We got it. Good deal. Thank you

[00:07:04] Nailed it. Thanks everybody. We'll talk to you next time
