Product Review: Snuuzu Model Y Mattress

[00:00:58] My name is Bodhi and I am your host and today the much, much more is a mattress review. So Purr from Snoozu reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in reviewing Snoozu's mattresses, which are specifically made for the Tesla Model Y and Model 3. And since I have a Model Y and I like to sleep, this seemed like an easy yes. Before we get into the review though, I should let you know that I was not paid for this review, but Snoozu did provide the mattress.

[00:01:28] They didn't have any input in the review. They did not ask to have any input or final approval, which was a huge green flag, honestly. So Purr provided me with a promo code. So I went to snuuzu.com and I ordered the mattress based, you know, with the promo code. And the process for order was pretty standard. I received the mattress in a few days. And right now in the U.S. anyway, they're offering free shipping.

[00:01:56] But if you order from a different country, check your shipping details. I would imagine it's still free, but you know, double check just in case. And by the way, Snoozu is based in the Netherlands. So starting off when the mattress arrived, the first thing I noticed was the packaging. Well, actually, there's a regular shipping box and inside the shipping box is a much nicer box.

[00:02:21] That's black and it has all sorts of really nice helpful tidbits printed on it even before you open up the box. And inside that black box is a duffel bag. And inside that duffel bag, it contains a mattress.

[00:02:34] So along with the mattress, I received a USB-C rechargeable pump that pumps up the mattress, charging cables, instructions, patches for repair and adapters to inflate other items like maybe a beach ball or whatever. My package also included a spare pump with a built in light, which makes it useful for, you know, just as a general camping accessory.

[00:03:02] So I've got the pump here. This is the one with the light. So I'll turn that on. I mean, you can see this is nice and bright. The regular pump that it comes with does not have the light. There is a USB-C charging port here. And then on the side here, this is where you plug the adapters in. Let me get the adapters. There are several different adapters.

[00:03:32] Like I said, if you have different, let's say you want to fill up a beach ball or you might have like a pool floaty or whatever, there's the adapters for that. So that's pretty cool. And that all these adapters all attach right here on the side and you just connect it like this and Bob's your uncle. Now on here, you have a couple of different things and it's a little dark.

[00:03:57] So I might get this wrong, but here is where you pump up the mattress. You hit this button. That's very loud. I will turn that down in the recording. This one hits. If you hit this one in the middle here, it resets these two buttons, but it also adds just a little bit of air if you want to fine tune the process. And then this one deflates.

[00:04:27] And actually I have it opposite. This one inflates. This one deflates. Anyway, it doesn't really matter. It's got this nice little cool handle and you just pop it back into the mattress and you're good to go. So that's all the stuff that came with it. Once you unzip the duffel bag, you're able to unroll the mattress and you'll see that the sides are folded inward and held together by clips.

[00:04:54] This keeps everything nice and lined up for when you are packing it away. And we'll talk about that here in just a little bit. When you're ready, go ahead and unclip those clips and you can see that the mattress is kind of already taking shape. So the model Y has wheel wells. So it's not an exact like rectangle.

[00:05:16] The mattress actually measures 205 centimeters by 130 centimeters, which you know for Americans that six foot nine inches long and four feet three inches wide. So it's pretty decent size, especially if you're tall. The thing is, though, it only fits two adults and it would likely fit two adults and a small child or a pet. But you'd have to get really cozy.

[00:05:44] Now, before I inflate it, I'm just going to show you real quick where the pump is located in the mattress. So you open up this cover and then, you know, you can lift in the whole handle comes out all that good stuff. There is a little like burp valve for lack of a better word. If you inflate it too much, you can just kind of hit that little valve over here off to the right and you it'll just remove a little bit of the air.

[00:06:15] The nice thing about this pump is that it's removable, so you don't have to move the entire mattress over to an outlet. You just take the pump out, plug it into the USB-C cable and then replace it when you're done. Or you can swap with the second pump that I was showing you as well if you want to do that. So that's really nice and well designed. With the mattress unfolded, you can see again, it's kind of got the shape of the interior of the Model Y.

[00:06:45] So let's go ahead and put the pump back in place and turn it on and let it inflate. So this whole process takes about two minutes for the mattress to fully inflate. And you can really see the difference from the side here as it is filling up. It goes from fairly flat to a substantial mattress.

[00:07:09] When you're all done with this, we're not going to do this right now, but when you're all done with this, the pump will also, it has a vacuum to it. So it will pull the air out of the mattress and then make it as flat as possible so that you're able to return it back into that duffel bag. Before we do that, let's just talk a little bit about how the mattress is constructed. This Snoozu mattress has five layers. We're going to start at the very bottom.

[00:07:38] There's a protective shell at the bottom. And above that protected shell, there's the air bladder that lets you choose how firm you would like the mattress to be. And then from there, there is a mesh layer that helps with airflow and helps keep you cool. On top of the mesh is a memory foam layer that provides very nice cushioning. And then finally, there is a soft top cover, which is organic and it unzips and it can be washed. So if it gets dirty, it's really easy to clean.

[00:08:08] All right. Now it's time to put the mattress back in the bag. So if you've ever tried to do something like this, like when you get something from a company and the bag is just the right size to put the mattress or whatever the product happens to be in at the factory, because they have a really cool machine that does it. And but you can't replicate that at home. That doesn't happen with this new zoom mattress. The duffel bag is actually a little bit bigger than the mattress itself.

[00:08:36] So it goes back in nice and easy. So the first thing we want to do is activate the vacuum and that will deflate the mattress and get it as flat as possible. And getting all the air out makes a big difference when it's time to fold it up. So you'll you'll hear a sound change when it is completely deflated. Once it's deflated, fold both sides inward and fasten the clips.

[00:09:04] This keeps the mattress together when you're folding it up and everything. It kind of makes it keeps it straight. It's a little bit stiff when you're folding, but it's not too bad. What you want to do is you want to start at the foot end and roll towards the head end or where the pump is. And if you notice, there's a bag attached. So there's a there's a zipper and the bag is attached to the front of the or the top of the mattress.

[00:09:33] So when you roll it, it all kind of rolls into the bag as you do it. It's actually very nice. And there's Velcro on the underside of the mattress and there's Velcro on the bag. So as you're rolling it up, you're able to use that Velcro to kind of help again keep everything straight. But then when it's completely rolled up, you just zip it and everything closes. So it's super nice and very easy to use in that way. All right.

[00:10:03] Once it's packed up, there's a couple of different places that you can put it in the Model Y. The first is and probably the most obvious is the sub trunk in the back. But you can also store it in the front if that's what you want to do. Or you can just stick it behind one of the front seats in the back and it'll be fine there as well. So it gives you a few different options for getting it out of the way. Now let's talk about how the Snoozu actually fits in the Model Y and what it's like to lie on.

[00:10:31] It actually fits really nice. There's not a lot of space between the car and the mattress once it's fully inflated. But there is a little bit of some work that you need to do. Obviously, you need to fold down the back seats, but then you need to move the front seats all the way forward. So when you move the front seats all the way forward and you fold down the back seats, there's a gap that between the front seats and the back seats.

[00:10:59] And I was concerned that when the mattress fits over this gap, if you put any sort of weight on it at all, it'll just kind of collapse and fold down. And that would not be a very good sleeping experience, to be honest with you. But I am proud to say once the mattress is completely inflated, it stays nice and firm over that gap. So that well done in terms of engineering on that.

[00:11:26] That support carries to the edges of the mattress as well. So I found the mattress comfortable no matter where I was lying on it. But if I was laying on the very edge of it, it did not collapse or make me feel like I was going to roll off or fall between the mattress and the car. It actually stayed nice and firm, which is really nice. I have some inflatable mattresses for my kids.

[00:11:52] And when you roll to the side of those inflatable mattresses, you do feel like you're going to kind of roll off or you feel like you've lost support. This mattress didn't do that in terms of comfort. I already said that it was pretty comfortable, but I have a hip injury and a shoulder injury and mattresses. Bad mattresses irritates them. I didn't I didn't find that with this mattress. It was nice and comfortable supported me where I needed to be supported.

[00:12:21] I didn't feel like my shoulder was in, you know, any position that made it uncomfortable. Same with the hip. So that that was a really big positive for me. By the way, I also use this mattress just sitting on the floor in the house outside of the car and it was still very comfortable even on that edge. It was still very comfortable. And a lot of folks when I was looking online will use this as a spare room mattress when guests come to visit and I can definitely see why.

[00:12:50] One thing to know is that the sleeping surface isn't completely level inside the Model Y. So when you put down the rear seats, the rear seats don't totally fold flat. They're at an angle. So when you put the mattress in, you're going to have a little bit of an angle and it's not going to be bad because your head's going to be tilted up instead of down. If it was down, it would be a problem.

[00:13:14] If this is a problem for you, if you're camping, I would just, you know, move the car in a position that makes it more level or you can get some sort of device to kind of roll your back tires up on so that it's flat basically. But for me, it was not a big deal. All right. So, so far I've had a lot of really good things to say about this mattress. It is very well made. It is very comfortable. Here are a couple of small issues, and I'm going to start with the smallest one first.

[00:13:43] And that is because it takes the entire back of the car. You can't really, unless you're super small, you can't really drive with this thing fully inflated. So you have to deflate it a little bit, kind of fold the feet back, pull the mattress back a little bit, and then you're able to adjust the front seat to where it's comfortable for you and you can drive around. That's not a big deal.

[00:14:09] The other issue I had is a little bit more of a big deal, not entirely Snooze Zoo's fault though. So I happen to live in Arizona. It's 110 degrees or it was 110 degrees outside when I was testing the mattress on a regular basis. It consistently 110 degrees today. It was like 105 degrees. The mattress itself covers the rear vents.

[00:14:35] So air conditioning is blowing to the back of the car, but it's kind of blowing underneath the mattress. So the area or the space underneath the mattress is nice and cool. I'm not getting that cold air on me when I'm on top of the mattress. And so I'm relying on the car to blow that cold air back towards me from the front vents.

[00:14:58] And at 110 degrees outside, even in my garage, it was not keeping me cool. So that is a little bit of an issue. So I don't necessarily think this is a deal breaker if you don't live in an extremely hot climate. But if you're planning on doing car camping in the middle of summer in Phoenix, would not recommend.

[00:15:22] I don't think this is going to be an issue if you're in a colder climate because those rear vents below the mattress are going to be blowing hot air out. Hot air rises. So the air is going to find its way into the cabin where you are. Plus, you have your body heat and you have blankets. So I don't think this is going to be as big of a deal as it is for me. But, you know, something to think about. Again, fairly extreme. I don't think a lot of people are going to be dealing with that.

[00:15:51] In terms of my overall impressions, I found this new zoo to be very comfortable. It supported my body and my injuries. And I really appreciated how easy it was to set up and put away like it was it's fast. The clips, the Velcro, the generously sized bag make a huge difference when you're handling it. And I can't tell you how much I appreciated being able to get the mattress into the bag without a struggle.

[00:16:18] Like just I know I've said this a thousand times or it seems like a thousand times at this point, but it is a big deal. This slight incline did not bother me at all. But if that's something that bothers you, there are definitely ways around that. Now, in terms of price, this mattress is not on the cheap side. It's $899 if you just want the mattress or you can get these really cool pillows, two pillows and a mattress for $998. But here's the thing.

[00:16:47] If you're doing a lot of long distance driving in your car or you're doing a lot of car camping, this is easy to set up and easy to put away. And it's super fast. So I would definitely recommend it. If for some reason you're traveling a long distance and you don't want to pay for hotels, you know, staying in your car a couple of nights definitely pays for the mattress and you don't have to pay for a hotel. But that's a, you know, that's a completely personal decision.

[00:17:17] But if you're going to use this multiple times a year, then I would highly recommend it. If you're going to use this like once a year or even less, you know, once every couple of years, you might really want to think about it before spending that much money. However, if sleep is important to you and being comfortable when you're sleeping is important to you, sometimes, you know, spending the extra money to be comfortable is 100% worth it.

[00:17:43] But yeah, that's kind of how I feel like this mattresses is if you are planning on just sleeping on a foam pad in the back of your Tesla, you, you might think about how nice it would be to be sleeping on something that was actually comfortable. So the Snoozu is definitely comfortable. All right, everybody, that is my review of the Snoozu mattress for the Model Y. I only tested the one for the Model Y. I didn't test the Model 3 mattress.
