[00:01:31] [SPEAKER_01]: after hearing Mark's recommendation from last week's episode, which was a really cool website

[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_01]: where you could see in real time where the power in the UK was being generated.

[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_01]: So David is recommending GridWatch Ontario Edition.

[00:01:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Ontario, let me see, go back to my notes here.

[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Ontario Edition, there we go. It's on iOS.

[00:01:56] [SPEAKER_01]: There might be an Android version, I'm not sure.

[00:01:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Obviously this is going to tell you the energy production for Ontario Canada,

[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_01]: the province, which is like the southeast part of Canada.

[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Like it kind of starts up by Minnesota and then goes all the way to New York.

[00:02:16] [SPEAKER_01]: What I'm trying to say is it's a big province.

[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_01]: So I downloaded the app and here was the breakdown as of this recording.

[00:02:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, I need to let you know that it is nighttime in Canada right now.

[00:02:27] [SPEAKER_01]: So here's the breakdown of the power sources.

[00:02:33] [SPEAKER_01]: 49% nuclear, nuclear, 25% gas.

[00:02:39] [SPEAKER_01]: A friend of mine makes fun of the way I say nuclear.

[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_01]: 21% hydro, I know that Manitoba has a big hydro dam.

[00:02:47] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if the energy is coming from that or not.

[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_01]: 3.2% wind and 0% solar.

[00:02:54] [SPEAKER_01]: So that is rough numbers of how Canada, or at least Ontario, is getting their power this evening.

[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_01]: I want to give David a big thank you for the recommendation.

[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's kind of cool.

[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_01]: We're going to start off with a lot of software updates.

[00:03:22] [SPEAKER_01]: The Volvo EX90, EX30 and XC90 are they're going to get a big software update.

[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_01]: The biggest part of this update or the most important, I guess,

[00:03:32] [SPEAKER_01]: part of this update that was highlighted in the article is that there's a new Google infotainment screen with a brand new interface.

[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, there are two and a half million Volvos that are going to get this update,

[00:03:43] [SPEAKER_01]: but you have to wait till 2025.

[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_01]: And if you happen to own a Volvo and you're like, well, do I qualify for this infotainment update?

[00:03:51] [SPEAKER_01]: The answer is maybe.

[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you own a 2022 or newer Volvo EX90, EX30 or XC90 that came equipped with a Google infotainment system?

[00:04:02] [SPEAKER_01]: If so, then yes.

[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Moving on, if you own a Ford electric vehicle and you live in Southern California,

[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_01]: then you could get a little extra money.

[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_01]: So here's how it works.

[00:04:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Southern California Edison will compensate Ford EV owners for reducing their electricity demand when the grid is starting to become overwhelmed.

[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_01]: So basically all you have to do is when the grid's getting hit really hard,

[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_01]: not charge your car and be reasonable about all the other electricity you're using and you're good to go.

[00:04:38] [SPEAKER_01]: You're going to get a little bit of money if you happen to have a Ford vehicle and the vehicle to grid equipment.

[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you have a Ford EV and you can actually power your house or power the grid,

[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_01]: they will give you some extra compensation on top of you not charging your car during those peak times.

[00:04:59] [SPEAKER_01]: I do not know how much you get if you're supplying electricity to the grid,

[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_01]: but you'll get a dollar a kilowatt hour for the energy that you're not using during peak demand times.

[00:05:12] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm guessing Southern California Edison is going to average out what you normally use

[00:05:19] [SPEAKER_01]: and whatever that average comes out to, whatever is less than that, you get a dollar a kilowatt hour.

[00:05:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure how they're figuring this out, but not too bad.

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you get a little extra money and you don't have to do anything for it.

[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not even in California, but I'll gladly sign up to that.

[00:05:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about Lucid Motors.

[00:05:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Lucid gave us a peek of their new midsize crossover EV at their manufacturing and technology event.

[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, I use an app to listen to earnings calls called Quarter.

[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_01]: That's Q-U-A-T-R. It's a good app.

[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you're interested in earnings calls and business related conference stuff, it's really well done app.

[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_01]: And Quarter live streamed the technology and manufacturing event that Lucid gave, I think it was on Tuesday.

[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to be honest with you.

[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I was not able to find this anywhere else.

[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I was looking for a video version so I could see what they were talking about.

[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Couldn't find it anywhere, not on Lucid's website, not on their YouTube channel.

[00:06:30] [SPEAKER_01]: You can stream the audio on Lucid's investor relations page, but you can't actually watch the event,

[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_01]: which I think is a little bit of a missed bet on Lucid's part because I think it would have been more fascinating to actually be able to see it.

[00:06:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, Lucid gave us a sneak peek of their new midsize crossover EV at this manufacturing and technology event.

[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_01]: The image shows more than most preview images of this kind will show, but it doesn't show much.

[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's kind of hard to tell.

[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_01]: We have a vague idea of what the shape is going to be and that's about it.

[00:07:09] [SPEAKER_01]: We also know that it's going to cost $50,000.

[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_01]: So they gave that a little tease.

[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Lucid also earlier this week released a new software update which included,

[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_01]: and I'm going to go run down some of these things in a little more detail,

[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_01]: but included 3D lane visualization and turn-by-turn navigation with Apple CarPlay.

[00:07:29] [SPEAKER_01]: So obviously the 3D lane visualization feature is one of their dream drive, their autonomous driving features.

[00:07:41] [SPEAKER_01]: It offers 3D visualizations on the center screen and gives the driver a more complete view of their surroundings on the highway.

[00:07:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Tesla does this with full self-driving and it looks amazing.

[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't have full self-driving, so it looks pretty good,

[00:08:00] [SPEAKER_01]: but I don't have the full view that full self-driving folks do.

[00:08:06] [SPEAKER_01]: But still, it's pretty cool.

[00:08:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Another feature coming to dream drive is the highway assist, which I'm going to guess is like their version of autopilot,

[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_01]: but it utilizes high definition maps so the drivers can see where the HOV lanes are, the exits, the lane merges and the splits,

[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_01]: and it can also be used on curves. So that is, I would imagine, pretty useful.

[00:08:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Driver initiated lane changes, so all you do is long press the turn signal and it will change lanes for you.

[00:08:39] [SPEAKER_01]: And then extended stop and go, which allows vehicles to resume traveling after long stops,

[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_01]: which is obviously due to bumper-to-bumper traffic.

[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_01]: And then Lucid removed one feature and added another.

[00:08:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Previously, Lucid used the Amazon A-Lady for the voice controls or the voice assistant in the car.

[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Now there's a new voice assistant called Lucid Assistant.

[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Alright, I have one more story in our EV news segment,

[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_01]: and I'm going to say the title of this article was like best EVs for families.

[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And I read it and I was like, for whose family?

[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Because three out of the five cars that they showed off were over $60,000.

[00:09:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Like they're talking about the R1S, the Silverado pickup truck EV, which is a great looking truck, but it's also $94,000.

[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_01]: What else was there?

[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, a BMW EV that was like $89,000.

[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's probably a good car for families, but it's also a car for a few families, not for necessarily my family.

[00:09:54] [SPEAKER_01]: So I thought that I would kind of start off with their recommendations and add a few of my own.

[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_01]: So we got the Kia EV9.

[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_01]: If you didn't know, that's the bigger SUV.

[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_01]: It seats seven.

[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_01]: It tops out at 304 mile range, but that's at the high end trim.

[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_01]: It's about 280, 260, somewhere around there for the more affordable model, which cost $54,900.

[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_01]: And then you have the Hyundai IONIQ 5, which is what they added.

[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_01]: But I would include the Kia EV6 because it's also a really good vehicle and, you know, they're their cousins seats.

[00:10:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Five people tops out around 300 miles of range starts at $41,800.

[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, I will say that there is a deal right now.

[00:10:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Kia will knock up to $9,000 off the price of an EV9 or EV6 if you own or lease a Tesla.

[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, I don't know exactly what you need to do to get the full $9,000 off the price of one of these two vehicles.

[00:11:01] [SPEAKER_01]: But that's a pretty good incentive for sure, especially if you don't have to trade your car in or do anything like that.

[00:11:07] [SPEAKER_01]: If you could just have a Tesla and then your spouse or significant other could just get $9,000 off their EV.

[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_01]: What a great deal.

[00:11:19] [SPEAKER_01]: These are some of the ones that I added here.

[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not going to go through all the prices because I don't want to take a bunch of time.

[00:11:26] [SPEAKER_01]: And I also know that sometimes when I read off a bunch of numbers, it becomes number salad and it's hard to sort out.

[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_01]: But you got the Volvo EX30, which is a really good affordable EV starts at $36,000.

[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_01]: You have the Chevy Equinox EV, which is roughly the same in that $40,000 range.

[00:11:47] [SPEAKER_01]: The Hyundai Kona and Kia Niro EVs, you know, they're right around $31,000 to $41,000, depending on which one you're looking at.

[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_01]: So these are good options as well.

[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_01]: You know, you're going to seat five people.

[00:12:01] [SPEAKER_01]: You're not seating seven.

[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_01]: The Nissan Leaf is always a great option at $29,000.

[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And one car that I don't talk about very often, but the Mini Cooper EV.

[00:12:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I've been seeing this recommended more often, and I don't know if it's just because I started noticing it more or and it's always been around or if it's just reviewing very well.

[00:12:28] [SPEAKER_01]: But I just thought I would mention that.

[00:12:31] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you're in the market for a car and for your family or just for yourself and you want a family size car, check out one of those cars.

[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Like we all have our preferences and what we like about certain cars and our little bugaboos here and there.

[00:12:47] [SPEAKER_01]: But honestly, these are these are all really good cars.

[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_01]: You might like one more than the other, but I don't think you could go wrong.

[00:15:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Tesla's latest smart summon feature is being pushed out to vehicles.

[00:15:13] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you have full self driving, you get access to actual smart summon.

[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_01]: It was formerly called smart summon, but Tesla decided to be juvenile.

[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm sure I know who decided to this naming convention is at the very top.

[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_01]: They decided to name it actual smart summon.

[00:15:33] [SPEAKER_01]: So the acronym is a S.S. So pretty juvenile.

[00:15:38] [SPEAKER_01]: However, I do recognize that the acronym for smart summon, which would be SS, does have some problematic.

[00:15:49] [SPEAKER_01]: It's problematic. So maybe a SS is better if you're not sure what smart summon is.

[00:15:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Basically, you could park your car, walk into the grocery store, do your grocery shopping and then walk out to the curb.

[00:16:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Hit a button in the app.

[00:16:08] [SPEAKER_01]: The car will unpack itself and then and then hopefully safely navigate the parking lot and come to you.

[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, I haven't seen too much on the second iteration of this feature, but the first iteration of this feature did not do well.

[00:16:27] [SPEAKER_01]: This came out a couple of years ago. It did not have the greatest reviews.

[00:16:31] [SPEAKER_01]: But the second iteration, from what I can tell, seems to be getting pretty good reviews.

[00:16:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't actually have this feature because I don't have full self driving.

[00:16:38] [SPEAKER_01]: So I will rely on the folks who do have full self driving to let me know what their thoughts are.

[00:16:46] [SPEAKER_01]: All right. Tesla took to X and they gave us a road map for full self driving.

[00:16:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Since we're talking about full self driving, let's round it out with this.

[00:16:54] [SPEAKER_01]: So let's run this down real quick.

[00:16:58] [SPEAKER_01]: In September of 2024, Tesla will release version full self driving version 12.5.2, which will have three times improved miles between necessary interventions.

[00:17:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm very curious as to what a necessary intervention will be.

[00:17:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Shortly after that, Tesla will release 12.5.2 on the AI3 computer, which we used to call a hardware three.

[00:17:27] [SPEAKER_01]: If you remember right, Tesla had to fork development on full self driving for hardware or AI4 vehicles and AI3 vehicles.

[00:17:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's see. Another feature that's coming in September is actual smart summon.

[00:17:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Talked about that.

[00:17:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Cybertruck Auto Park. Auto Park.

[00:17:47] [SPEAKER_01]: When I had the beta for full self driving, Auto Park was my favorite feature.

[00:17:52] [SPEAKER_01]: It felt magical. It did really, really well.

[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's pretty cool. Eye tracking with sunglasses.

[00:17:58] [SPEAKER_01]: So if you remember right, Tesla did a little update and a few months ago and it took away the need for the driver to touch the steering wheel so much while driving in full self driving

[00:18:12] [SPEAKER_01]: because the car is tracking your eyeballs. Now it will do it through sunglasses.

[00:18:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure on what this one is. It's end to end network on highway.

[00:18:23] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm curious about that.

[00:18:25] [SPEAKER_01]: And then and then it says the last one for September 2024, Cybertruck Full Self Driving.

[00:18:32] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll see. We'll see.

[00:18:35] [SPEAKER_01]: In October 2024, we have Unpark, Park and Reverse in full self driving.

[00:18:43] [SPEAKER_01]: And then we'll get version 13 of full self driving in October 2024, which is six time improved miles between necessary intervention.

[00:18:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't what's a necessary intervention.

[00:18:56] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's around six times. It says it's not exactly six times.

[00:19:00] [SPEAKER_01]: And then we talked about this last episode in Q1 2025.

[00:19:05] [SPEAKER_01]: We are going to get FSD released in China and Europe.

[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And that is, of course, pending regulatory approval.

[00:19:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about Hacker Green the only as Mr. Green the only does.

[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_01]: He was coming through some Tesla software and found that Tesla will likely roll out a new feature that will help improve child safety, especially in places like Arizona.

[00:19:32] [SPEAKER_01]: The feature will actually alert drivers that they left their child in the car.

[00:19:38] [SPEAKER_01]: And you're thinking to yourself because I'm sure everybody does this.

[00:19:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Why would you leave your car, your child in the car?

[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, parents are sleep deprived.

[00:19:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I was terrified that I was going to leave my kids in the car when my kids were little.

[00:19:53] [SPEAKER_01]: And it happens. Happens a lot.

[00:19:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Like recently, maybe two or three weeks ago, we had a call where a mom used the auto start feature for the vehicle.

[00:20:04] [SPEAKER_01]: And she put her keys down, put the baby in the car, closed the door, the door locked and the baby still in the car.

[00:20:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, this is Arizona. It's like one hundred and eight degrees.

[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_01]: We've had over one hundred days of over one hundred degree temperatures.

[00:20:22] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like one hundred and eight. It's kind of humid outside.

[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_01]: We get there because she used the auto start. The car actually turned off.

[00:20:31] [SPEAKER_01]: So we did not normally what we'll do is we'll try to use our tools to open the door and cause as little damage as possible.

[00:20:39] [SPEAKER_01]: But because this was a small baby, she was in the car seat.

[00:20:44] [SPEAKER_01]: The car was not on. We actually took the window, which which mom was very appreciative of of listening to the conversation that she was having with dad.

[00:20:56] [SPEAKER_01]: He was not as appreciative of our efforts in getting the baby out.

[00:21:02] [SPEAKER_01]: But I will say the baby was sweaty and hot, which is better than hot and dry.

[00:21:09] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, everybody came out fine.

[00:21:12] [SPEAKER_01]: They just had to replace their window and our new guy got to break a window, which we always try to avoid doing.

[00:21:20] [SPEAKER_01]: We don't want to cause damage to your vehicle.

[00:21:22] [SPEAKER_01]: However, how often do you get to break a car window?

[00:21:25] [SPEAKER_01]: It is pretty fun when you get to do it.

[00:21:28] [SPEAKER_01]: But we are professionals and we only do it when we absolutely need to.

[00:21:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's move on to Robo taxi.

[00:21:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Robo taxi may come equipped with wireless charging technology, according to a patent filing.

[00:21:43] [SPEAKER_01]: And to this I say maybe, maybe it's possible.

[00:21:50] [SPEAKER_01]: If you have a fleet of robot cars out there, they're not going to plug themselves in.

[00:21:57] [SPEAKER_01]: So they have to have some sort of charging system and wireless makes the most amount of sense.

[00:22:02] [SPEAKER_01]: But just because it's a patent does not mean that Tesla is going to do it.

[00:22:08] [SPEAKER_01]: They file patents all the time.

[00:22:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And that brings us to our final story.

[00:22:12] [SPEAKER_01]: A Wall Street Journal report suggested that Tesla and one of Elon Musk's other companies, XAI,

[00:22:19] [SPEAKER_01]: are working on a deal where Tesla would license XAI models to help develop technologies like full self-driving.

[00:22:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Elon did post on X, and I'm going to read part of his post, not all of it,

[00:22:32] [SPEAKER_01]: where he said, haven't read the article, but the above is not correct.

[00:22:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Tesla has learned a lot from discussions with engineers at XAI that they have helped accelerate achieving unsupervised FSD.

[00:22:49] [SPEAKER_01]: But there is no need to license anything from XAI.

[00:22:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, does that mean there is no need to borrow technology from XAI like models and things like that?

[00:22:59] [SPEAKER_01]: No, that's not what he said. He said there's no need to pay for that.

[00:23:05] [SPEAKER_01]: This is mixing some things that I know a lot of Tesla shareholders do not like.

[00:23:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Like, I can't remember the shareholders name, but there's a really big individual shareholder who hates this.

[00:23:18] [SPEAKER_01]: He believes that because Elon is the CEO of Tesla and XAI is close enough to what Tesla does and was developed at the same time.

[00:23:30] [SPEAKER_01]: And there was even engineers going to XAI from Tesla and SpaceX and a bunch of other places that that is actually owned by Tesla.

[00:23:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, I don't legally I don't know where the legal argument of this lies.

[00:23:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Right. I don't know if that is legally true or not.

[00:23:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I know that is a strong feeling amongst some Tesla shareholders.

[00:23:54] [SPEAKER_01]: And I would imagine that if this continues back and forth like it is, there will be a lawsuit to try to sort out.

[00:24:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Does Tesla own XAI or is this just something that Elon can do on his own?

[00:24:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but that's it. That's our whole show today.

[00:25:00] [SPEAKER_01]: There's like tonight we had an athletic activity for the kids and then we had parent teacher conferences.

[00:25:07] [SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot going on in the lives of me and my family.

[00:25:14] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think that having these little lavalier mics, while I bought them again for a different purpose, they might be beneficial to getting this show out on time.

[00:25:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I just got them the other day.

[00:25:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I haven't even really used them.
